DJ has everything in order. She installs high end, hi-tech security systems using the latest and most sophisticated gadgetry. Her single-employee business is in constant high gear. She relies on love interest detective Max Swain to rescue her from their torturous grip.

This is a believable, witty,and, above all else, emotional story. Casey O'Ryan spins multiple plots into one smooth story with a very unexpected and exciting ending. Animal lovers will fight off tears of sadness to later find reasons to rejoice.
DJ is a fresh,unconventional heroine. Bitter is a villain that one loves to hate and surrounds himself with the same. I could easily pal around with Max (he's a cop and a sweatheart) and Auntie (wise and young at heart).

I loved this book! Bitter's character was brilliant...sent shivers down my spine. Max and DJ were the cutest couple, their banter and cute romantic conversations made me laugh and wish I had a relationship like that. The conflict is even more gripping. Who can imagine a crime more gruesome than mistreating innocent puppies? And what a twist when Bitter goes after DJ!! Such a surprise. This suspense novel is unlike anything I have read before. This first time author is full of creativity and isn't afraid to come out with his own, unique writing style.
Loved the main character DJ...she and her Auntie are definitely believable (not to mention a HOOT). The other small story lines in the beginning caught my interest and the great thing was that THEY were even resolved by the end!!!! As an animal lover, I thought I might find parts of this disturbing because of the title..a few parts were but didn't keep me from reading....because I HATED Travis Bitter and wanted to see if DJ could take him down. What a SURPRISE ending just when you thought it was all over!!!! This was truly a heartwarming story by the time it was all said and done...thanks to the epilogue...the very last paragraph left me chuckling. DJ and Max make a great team! The donation to the ASPCA is important as well. It's wonderful that this new author would donate 10% of his/her proceeds from each purchase. Hopefully, many little precious lives will be saved or made better. I'm looking forward to "A Colder Breed" when it hits and/or the book stores. Casey O'Ryan will be on my Must Read list from here on out.
